If you had a choice of a couple of years in the army or 6 months in prison which would you take?
I'm looking at 6 months in prison but would definitely sign up for the army instead of prison but I can't with my record.
People say that people who have been in trouble should do national service but the fact is they don't let you.

I did ask about it but it's not possible - you can only join after you've done your sentence and enough time goes by to show you're not going to get into more trouble.

Just think that if you are suitable and willing to sign up for it and all that goes with the army it would be better doing something for your country instead of wasting your life in prison and there is a better chance that you would not get into trouble again

Army would probably teach more discipline to people who were facing the choice. It seems that people who go to prison these days end up with worse problems when they come out than when they go in. The army would probably help with installing self confidence into people who are lacking in this and this and think that theres no way out of the life they are leading.
It will also give a short, sharp shock to those that thought this would be the easy option.

Are you sure you can't arrange something through your solicitor? Just say what you've just written here. If you are really so remorseful and you want to offer your services to the country in return for your repent then perhaps they'd look at you in a better light. I would say army, definitely because with prison you get a criminal record, with army don't. I think the justice system fails to recognise willfull sinners who just want to make it right (whatever you've done - for 6 months it can't be that serious). Until then soldier on!

Army - I have am living the military way of life and loving it.
My husband is a US Soldier in the Army and has been 14.5 years. He is a career.... He loves it. The hours tend to be long, but the training and experiences you get can't be matched!
He has served in Iraq and spent YEARS overseas in other countries. He meets a lot of interesting people and has more world experiences than anyone I know with a collegiate degree or doctorate!

Army - The thought of prison fills me with fear. At least i'd have a weapon and a fighting chance against some Arab trying to do me up the wrong 'un!

Yeah the all volunteer military does have some standards, despite what some liberals and anti-war/anti-military people believe. The whole military or jail option is almost a thing of the past It seems to me most people nowadays do not want most criminals in national service, and I can understand that.

You'll deal with less stress and trauma in 6 months of prison (and hopefully your lesson ) than 3 years of stormtrooper service in Iraq.

Are you serious to even have to wonder which is better...???
Hmmm... prison, with that on your perminant record...
Or Army with training, leadership, honorable discharge (as long as you earn it) pay, and a chance at a career if you choose to do so....
If you are that dense as to have to wonder which is better, then I can understand why you did something as stupid as commit a crime
