14 years old is great for an Akita. I can only hope my girl makes it up there & past. I have 2 Akitas that are on the fairly small side, but I work with big dogs every day. Since she is in good health, has your vet ever suggested anything for pain? There are some really great drugs out ther that are anti-inflammatory pain killers. Rimadyl has been used for years and provides these great qualities. There's also a product called Zubrin which resembles Rimadyl in many ways, but seems to have less side effects that Rimadyl causes. Rimadyl can sometimes cause vomiting and nausea. Glucosamine is great, but it's not helping her pain. If your vet is unwilling to help you, change vets. Your girl has arthritis and it's hard on her with the pain she's in. Remember, she's close to 95years old. Get her some relief. Be aware that you'll probably have to get a full panel blood test done before starting either Rimadyl or Zubrin to make sure everything is going well on the inside. Good luck, and I hope this helps you.

We give our German Shepherd an 81mg coated aspirin twice a day. Being coated it doesn't upset his stomach and it is a small dosage. It does seem to get the creaks out. He is old too, poor dear!

Definitely get her to the vet. If she cannot be seen for a little while, ask how much baby aspirin you can give her in the meantime. Other than that, your veterinarian may prescribe rimadyl or some other anti-inflammatory for her. But it is VERY important to get her in to see the vet. Also, NEVER give a dog advil/ibuprofen or tylenol/acetaminophen.

Don't give your dog ibuprohine - it's poisen to dogs and cats. One aspirin a week is ok - but check with your vet.

I'd be taking her to another vet. Glucosamine is good but if your dog has arthritis which is causing her pain, she needs more than that.

There might be some pain medication for arthritis that the vet can get for you. Best of luck.
