You should call your vet to get the right answer to your question. My vet said we could give asprin as treatment for this, but you need your vet to tell you the proper dosage.

Yes as others say, Asprin is a blood thinner, it doesnt help that much with Arthritis, please people dont give human medication to dogs. Dosages all depend on the weight, the size, the condition and the age of the animal. NO ONE HERE should be giving out dosages to you. Unless they came to your house and weighed your dog. Older vets may give this advise but the new studies are showing that the amount of medication in human medicines are just to concentrated for dogs. Giving a dog gluclosimine supplements, good diet, maybe some heated bedding, and a mild pain reducer made for dogs is better than giving asprin. Asprin and other medications can build up in organs and cause may other problems later on, and only mask the fact the dog has a medical issue. Time for a good visit with the vet soon.

You should never give your dog any kind of medication, unless a vet tells you to do so. The vet is the only one who can safely tell you what type of aspirin, or what dose, if any at all. You don't want to take any chances on causing more harm to your dog. What you can do, is just give your vet a call, it's free, explain what's been going on, ask him about aspirin, and they will tell you the best thing to do for your dog.

Aspirin is in a class of drugs called NSAIDs - Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, and dogs are particularly sensitive to the gastrointestinal effects of; pain, bleeding, and ulceration that can be a side effect of these drugs. Coated aspirin may help with the gastrointestinal effects.
You really need to call the vet to get the right medicine for him.
However, you can get a supplement at the health section of your grocers, or at any pet supply for chondriotin/glucosomine, that is sure to help....and is safe

This supplement is excellent!> http://springtimeinc.com/product/94/2

Call your vet and ask if he can recommend the doseage for Bufferin. Regular aspirin will be too hard on your dog's stomach if you are planning on giving it on a regular basis. He will be able to give you the correct doseage by weight of your dog. He may recommend something other than Bufferin for the arthritis, but if cost is an issue, Bufferin can work just fine.

Yes, you can. But for the dose, you need to consult with your veterinarian. Aspirin is safe, as is Orudis. Just NEVER EVER give your dog tylenol or advil. That can be toxic. Just make sure to call your vet for the dosage.

You may give asprin but it should be given with food.
A regular 325 mg asprin
Give 1/4 tablet for each 10 pounds of body weight.
I give my 70 pound dogs one tablet once in the am and once in the pm.
That takes care of it. If your dog seems to be in pain still you can give the full 1/4 tablet dose per 10 pounds. I always use less.
This dosage and information comes from
The Doctors Book of Home Remedys for Dogs and Cats.

I am not sure about the aspirin. However, I do know that Glucosomine helped my older Lab mix with joint problems. She had a much better quality of life in her later years because of it.

my mom is a veterinarian and she said you cannot give your dog aspirin. you have to take it to the vet and have them give you a prescription for your dog. aspirin is a blood thinner and it would not be good for an 11 year old dog!
