I just moved in to a new apartment. The living and dining rooms are connected by a large doorway, and I'd like to make some curtains that would match both colours. The living room is a lemongrass and the dining room is a nice brick red tone. I know it sounds like they clash, but they really blend quite nicely. I'm looking for a colour that will blend with both, any suggestions?

You have several options. You could try to find material that has a pattern with both colors in it and have curtains made (that is if you can't find premade curtains with a suitable print!) You could also use a chocolate brown/espresso color in a textured silk. You could use a natural linen.
I would suggest going to a fabric store and getting swatches. They will cut you TONS of swatches of any fabric that you think may work. then you can bring them home and see what you think! Be creative, sometimes the colors you would never think of, work the best! Good luck!

Any color scheme in the world will go with what you have as a foundation. Go to the fabric store and start looking at fabrics until you find a pattern you love. If you lean more towards simple styles, look at geometrics - there are some really nice ones out there. You can also buy some solid colored curtains fairly cheaply at Target or Anna's linens and use the patterned fabric just for the throw pillows if you don't want it to be too busy. Find your patterned fabric first, then use that color pallette in the fabric to pick out a solid color. Have fun with it.

go to a good paint store and get one of there colour wheels, then look diagonally opposite your exsisting colours, you will find that the lemongrass should have purples opposite going towards darker reds, the brick red will have greens opposite. These colours work fantastically together and would add real impact!

You would likely find a stripe that will accent both colors and even throw some extra colors in that you could accent both rooms with. Chocolate brown is a nice option, but will limit you in the accessories department. Don't look for a material that has both exact colors in it ~ find one that compliments both colors well and you will find a world of possibilities.....just use your imagination and never be intimidated by colors!

What about a nice mossy green, not to bright but soft and subtle. I think it would look really nice. If you dont like green maybe a natural linen color.

Why not put one color on one side and the other color on the other side? Maybe you could add ties that are the combination of both?
