nope. definitely not. i mean there are some really good teachers around who do live up to the name of being a person who not just imparts learning from books but also moulds a person emotionally, psychologically, mentally...etc...
but then again, there are those who beat kids up, insult them in front of everyone, harass them, molest them....etc...there have been plenty of cases in india of teachers mercilerssly beating up children for some person problem of their own.
being a teacher isnt just about reading out lines and explaining them....a teacher cannot impose respect, he has to earn it. in india today, there are many highly qualified teachers who are bitter human beings. so the straight answer to ur question would be NO, a teacher in india, does not fulfill their duties (in every sense of the word).

The education system in India is the worst I have ever seen. Basically they use the "kill and drill" methodology of teaching subjects. There is no emphasis on critical thinking skills as far as I have seen.
