I moved with my husband who is in the military. Right now I am working full time. And during the fall 2007 semester I will start going to college full time. My parents don't know that I am married (I know, I know-don't judge me), and I don't want them to find out for a while. What do I need to do tax-wise to keep them from finding out this year? And is there any other way for them to find out?

The taxes you are about to file are for 2006...since you got married in 2007 that will not affect the return you are about to file.
There is no other way for them to know your marital status unless you tell them, or unless they search public records and find your marriage license, which is unlikely.

Well, since you didn't get married until 2007, that doesn't affect anybody's 2006 returns. If your parents can claim you as a dependent for 2006, your marriage doesn't change anything, they still can, so you don't have to tell them for any tax reason.
About the only way they'll find out you're married is if somebody, you or someone else who knows about it, tells them.
I'm not judging you, I'm sure you have your reasons, but would like to give you some advice. Tell them. You're old enough to make that decision. And you've made it. They might not be happy, but no parent is happy with every decision their kids make (speaking as a mom). If they don't like your husband - well, they'll get over it or they won't. You can't control that. And if they just think you're too young to get married - well, you are married, so that doesn't really matter now.

Well, you are a funnybunny indeed. But I'm sure that you have your reasons.
The only way that I know of that they will find out is if they suspect and check the county recorders office in the county where you wed. It's public record.
Of course they may be used to filing their taxes showing you as a dependent. I'm pretty sure, (not 100%) that you can't let them do that now that you are married, since you are no longer their dependent. Your tax filing is not a public record so you may be able to file jointly with your husband without them knowing. But at some date in the future this will certainly all come to light.
Unless they are the worlds most understanding people or completely disinterested they are going to be REalLY hurt. So just think about how that can affect many things for a long time.
Will they hold it against you long enough to shun the Grandkids?
Unless you are holding off for just a few months and then going to have the big ceremony that they are dreaming of for them. I'd come clean asap. This stuff has a way of getting blown way out of proportion in the eyes of the agrieved.

You do not need to do anything tax-wise to keep them from finding out your marital status in 2007. Since you will not be living with them in 2007, they cannot claim you on their tax return.
However, if they incorrectly try to claim you on their 2007 tax return, and you have not filed yet, it could cause you and your spouse tax problems since your return could be rejected. But even then, unless you tell them of your marital status, there is no process in the tax system which would reveal your marital status to them.
My tax advice to avoid tax problems as noted above is to get your name on the Social Security Card changed. That way your parents cannot mess up your taxes.

the taxes are for 2006 so they can still claim you as a dependent since you were in their care all of 2006... be glad you did not marry before January 2007... otherwise, you would be in a bigger mess.... you might as well go ahead and tell them you are married so you do not have to constantly worry about it... get it off your sholders.. you are an adult now... tell them.

Don't worry....these taxes are for 2006. You weren't married until 2007.

As long as your husband does not claim you as a dependent you should be ok. If you're in school your parents are probably still claiming you under their taxes. If both you husband and parents claim you, your SSN will appear twice and your parents will get a letter from the IRS.

The other person's reponse is right, and don't worry, I myself will be getting married and my mother will not be finding out for a while, which is entirely on her. Good luck with everything
