Hi my mum locked me in the house today because she knows I am planning to meet up with someone. She says I can't go unless we go by her rules (she treats me like a 5yr old) anyway I'm 16, in the UK and I can't get out of my house when I have important plans to go out tomorrow. What can I do, I mean is this even legal? Could I get the police to let me out? I can't believe she has done this :( all my plans will be ruined!

Not at all, it's because she doesn't know who I'm meeting and she has never trusted me even though I've done nothing wrong. I've been good, honest.

My friend is suicidal and he said that if he meets me he will feel better (so will I), this was his last hope, if I don't he will end up killing himself. I know what he is saying is genuine. So I must help him! I've told my mum this but she doesn't give a sh..

Thanks for the messages. I think I will have to get someone out to sort this, since she has done other things wrong too. I actually told her my plan that I'm going to move out on my own and don't want anything to do with her again, so maybe this is why she's like that. Thanks for taking the time to help anyway. Thank your lucky stars that you have a loving , caring mother that would rather lock you in the house than let you self-destruct. Iam sure she has a good reason. Maybe if you would act like a responsible and mature person at age 16, she would not have to treat you like a 5yr. old. If you call the police you will run the chance of being put in foster care and I don't think you would want that, would you? While your mother is out working to provide for you do something around the house to show her how much she is appreciated. Remember your mother is the one that will always be there when you need her. GOOD LUCK!

Use the time to really think about why your mum has done this - I'm sure she doesn't just want to upset you, and cause all this hassle. Would you rather she just let you do anything and didn't care about what you did? Maybe she has a GOOD reason and you haven't bothered to listen to her. Maybe she's protecting you from something or someone she thinks will harm you in some way? If you act reasonably in future, amybe she'll do the same? You are 16, not 26 and have a lot to learn yet, so ask her why exactly she's doing this!

yes, false imprisonment is illegal. Depends on the circumstances of course, she may haev your best interests at heart. Locking someone away is a little radical though.
Try reasoning with her, ask her why she won't let you out.
Otherwise, don't call the police, this will only make matters worse. I guess, you could try excaping, although this too would anger her when she found out. Tough call, hope you find a way!

In the US this is a felony offense called false imprisonment, do not know about UK but I know you are free to move out at 16 in the UK so I'm sure it is illegal there to. How does one lock you in anyway, door locks are designed to keep people out not in, unlock the door and leave.

you need to sit down and talk to your mom like a grown up without getting all hormonal and teenagerish
your mom is obviously worried about you - when you are a bit older you will understand that and be grateful that she loves you
plus your friend should never have said that to you - it is not fair and not right
if he is suicidal you need to get him to call his doctor or the samaritans or at least tell a teacher - they can deal with it and take the pressure off you so you can be a friend

At 16 you probably think you know whats right, your mom is just trying to keep you safe... if this person is indeed sucidial, then invite him over to your house and talk to him there... talk to him on the phone, text him, IM him... theres other ways of talking to him and keeping yourself out of trouble as well. You have to understand that living with her, she is responsible for you.

Don't think the police can help you as you are sill a minor in the eye's of the law.
Get over it.

When you live in your mum's home you have to respect her rules. It sounds like she is at the end of her tether with you if she has had to resort to locking you in for you to obey what she has said. If you don't like her rules then you should move out.
