My 5 month old daughter and 4 year old son both had positive strep tests almost two weeks ago but neither had a sore throat. My daughter had a fever, my son was vomiting with no fever. I have it now too with no sore throat, but stomach pains...are there different strains of it? How long til it goes way? Nearly the whole household is still sick!

I've had a problem with strep all my life so I've learned alot along the way.

You do not have to have a sore throat to have strep. Some people who have chronic strep can keep the bacteria for a very long time and have no sore throat, or even no symptoms at all.

Strep can cause serious health problems and needs to be taken care of as soon as possible. I'm not sure if there are different strains of strep, but there are however different reactions. It usually takes 1 week of antiobitcs to kill the bacteria. Do NOT skip your meds or take an incomplete dosage.

You will have to go to the doctor with your whole family. They will likely do a "Strep Test" but demand that everyone get a "Throat Culture". This way it can detect strep and any other bacteria, viruses hiding out in your throat. Getting some blood work done wouldn't hurt either.

Make sure you get this all done at the same time. You can easily reinfect people with strep.

I hope I helped.

Strep does indeed come in different strains, and impacts each individual differently. The good thing is that it is rapidly and easily treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic. If you have been taking antibiotics and the symptoms do not go away, it is likely that you have a secondary viral infection as well, and antibiotics do not work on viruses, only rest fluids and time will take care of that.

Strep is a bacterial infection. It can reside anywhere in the body and may affect you without the sore throat symptom.
