Abreeva. It costs a lot, but it's worth every penny. It works like a dream.

Zovirax is a prescription cream that will relieve the pain and shorten the duration of cold sores.
Abreva can be helpful, but is darn expensive for that stupid little tube.
Arbonne sells a GREAT cream called "herbal lip oinment" (which I am using right now) which is a better deal than Abreva, as the tube is about 3 times the size for a similar price. (see below for a link on where you can buy Arbonne)

However, one of the BEST things you can do for cold sores is keep your immune system strong and reduce stress in your life. Cold sores are a form of herpes which is a viral infection. It will never go away, but if stress and poor nutrition, sleeping habits, etc reduce the effectiveness of your immune system, you'll keep getting them! So eat healthy, get your sleep, stop SMOKING, drink lots of water, and drink green tea for the EGCG and it'll help cut down on cold sore break outs.

I used something called "Dr. Joshua's Formula" - it's some kind of internet thing, but I swear it worked especially if you use it at the first sign (mainly I think if you cut off the oxygen to the virus, it can't survive and this stuff forms a seal on the area that hurts... just my own theory).
