I automatically thought up of two scenarios. 1) He knew you were there and was messing with you or 2) He truly doesn't like you and is messing with your feelings which is never cool.
If it is the second scenario then the best thing for you to do is forget about him as soon as possible just because a guy like that is not worth it.

Depends on your age...
Middle school - he is probably just trying to "impress" his friends and go along with what they say. This is part of the age. I hate to say it, but young men and women of this age are influenced by what their friends think - and some people don't want to stand up and go against everyone to defend someone - even if they like them!
High school - depending on the grade - it could fall back to the middle school example - especially for Freshmen and young Sophmores... if he is older than that - I would say he either doesn't like you (sorry) or he is extremely immature!
I would say - talk to this guy - especially if you like him. If he is just immature - he will HOPEFULLY grow up ... if he isn't immature - leave him - you are worth more than that!
Good Luck!

sometimes a guys friends will make fun of him for liking or dating a certain girl but he will do it anyway. So to keep from being teased unmercifully he will lie and tell them one thing while he tells you the truth. Eventually he will tell them the truth but let him take his time. He does like you.
I chickened out and never dated her because I didn't have the guts to stand up to my friends.

If these guys are his friends then maybe he said he didn't like you cause they said they don't like you and he just didn't want them hassling him about it.
I would tell him that I heard what he said and say if you don't like me then why did you tell me you did? More than likely he either does and doesn't want them to know yet or he is just trying to get down your pants. Either way, be glad you got the heads up and don't put out to him anytime soon.

Guys will always try to be cool in front of their friends. Sounds like he was just afraid of being rejected. It's okay...he probably likes you. If you're cool with his friends, he won't hesitate to tell the world he likes you!

Be busy if he ever calls for a date. Drop Mike also while you are at it. He is not a friend.

when he is with his friends he may think he has to put a front on for them. talk to him and explain that you don't like how that feels when he says that to his friends and if he can't do that, tell him you can't be in the relationship then. life's to short for peoples' ignorants, you're better than that and don't let anyone else tell you different!!!

He sounds like an insencere jerk to me. He just wants in your pants & doesn't want the "guys" to know. He has issues I wouldn't give him a second look from now on.

He was probably just giving into his friend's notion. He's trying to please everyone by agreeing with his friends and also saying that he likes you.
I wouldn't worry about it so much. He still digs you, but doens't want to rock the boat with his friends.
