hey whats up man? I am from mass too(Plymouth), so i guess ur probabaly having a bad monday due to the pats loss last night aswell. But to answer your question go to ISSAOnline.com and sign up for the PFT course. They will send you a bunch of really useful info. You study that until you come familiar with it then you go into one of there seminars and at the end you will take an exam. After you pass the exam you are a certified personal fitness trainer. It took me about a year to complete the study and take the exam, but I was very thorough. They also offer other courses of study, for example after becoming a trainer i got certified as a specialist in performance nutrition. I believe the PFT course is about $400 but its worth it. I make $50 per hour doing what you want to do.

Some advice I've learned from working in fitness orientated areas

Educate yourself as best you can...be open minded, there is no 'perfect program'....learn all the aspects of exercise science that you can but also find something you like and develop your own theories....but the thing to remember when developing your own theories is to try them on yourself first....remember your body is your biggest advertisement

Call around to different gyms and ask them what the requirements are for their fitness instructors, as everyone will be different. Good luck!
