Is IONIZATION being used by farmers today to increase crop yields?

Some Russians and Rumanians claim that negative "air ions" makes plants grow 43% faster. Is this proven? Are plant growers using this in any commercial scale today? Can it reduce dependency on fertilizers and pesticides? Can it ge used by people in organic farming? Or, is this just hype by device manufacturers?

I don't believe there's any documented evidence to support those claims...It's all a ploy by manufacturers.
