My mother had one in her foot, and they told her instead of paying thousands for therapy, she could just stand on the lowest step at a set of stairs, and bounce,slowly, stretching her feet.
Normal massaging of the area, and icy hot on the area, along with a amphetamine type of pain reliever will help the symptoms.
Also, soaking it in Epsom's salt and hot hot water, helped her.

They quite often will go on their own, but thye can be surically treated. theres nothing you can actually do yourself about them;
