It all depends on your beliefs, morals, and ethical structure. I mean sure we can all justify why we had to kill somebody but it does not mean it was right or OK to do so. It all depends on perception. In law enforcement; force is permitted when the officer believes that unless action is taken he himself or others may be harmed in some way. Deadly force is permitted when the officer believes there is imminent harm of SBI(serious bodily injury) or death unless appropriate action is taken. We still have to live with the actions regardless whether or not it was justifiably done.

If my life, or the life of my family is in imminent danger, I would have no problem hurting or even killing whoever's threatening my life or my family's life. According to most US states, you are allowed to defend yourself against dangerous people immediately threatening you.

I don't think it's ever "okay", but it is sometimes legal:
1. In self-defense.
2. In war.
3. In the case of the death penalty.
Other than that, I don't think it IS okay. And even those three are pushing it.

I believe is ok to use proportionate force to stop a imminent or occurring threat to my safety or the safety of my family. If the other person has a gun pointed at me or shooting at me, it is ok to kill them to end that threat.
