Hehehe, I trained my guy to pee in a cup but I digress.

Male- Tape cup on the end of a stick and go for a walk. When the dog pees stick the cup under. You only need a 1/4 cup or so.

Female- Tape a narrow thin tray (pie tray works) to your stick and go for a walk.

If you know the blood is at the beginning or end then aim to collect that urine.

It might take a few tries, my guy held his bladder all day when I first tried this. He just didn't want to share;) You have to out wait them. Don't let them off leash because they will use the chance to pee without being bothered by strange humans.

Don't bend over near the dog it will probably startle them and stop the flow.

It could just be a UTI so don't worry too much. To collect a sample use something like a butter dish that is clean and dry. When your dog urinates just hold the dish under the stream. Close the lid and keep it refridgerated until you can get it to the vet. If you can't collect a sample, when you take your dog in the veterinarians and technicians can. Good Luck, i hope your dog feels better soon.

Yes you certainly should. Blood in the urine is a sign of a bladder infection, usually caused by urine crystals. This is more serious in males than females, as they have longer urethras and can get blocked, which is very serious. Please get him to the vet asap - as with all conditions, this one is easier and cheaper to treat if you catch it early. At the moment it may be treatable with meds and a special diet - if the bladder blocks the dog may need sedation to have it unblocked (some dogs tolerate being catheterised concious, unlike cats and females), but it may require surgery if left for too long. it may just be a slight urinary infection- easy to treat with antibiotics. You can try to hold a cup with a funnel under her, but if that doesn't work, the vet can remove urine and get the sample themselves pretty easily, as long as you don't let her pee right before coming to the vet- they can easily express a full bladder and get a good sample.

The vet will use a catheter to get a sample.

have you spoke to the vet? sounds like an infection (uti) vet will give some antibiotics and pain relief, i would'nt leave it long before you go to the vet, its very painful for your dog, and its not nice.
