No it's not a waste of money. Your body needs vitamins to help build your immune system to help fight off diseases, colds, etc.... We normally get all we need from the healthy foods we eat, but nowadays what we eat isn't always good for us and doesn't have all the vitamins and minerals we need so thats why we have to take a multi vitamin. It keeps us healthy.

Taking vitamins will ONLY benefit you if you are Lacking those same vitamins or Supplements. Usually vitamins you dont need are expelled in your body wastes, Many people consider this to be, money "down the drain".
A normal person eating a balanced diet doesn't need to spend money on vitamins because advertisements tell them it's a good idea.

From what I have read you really only need vitamins if you are pregnant or nursing or you are unable to get all your nutrition from your food. I am a vitamin taker mainly because I do not have the best diet and I feel like they keep me healthy I think it is up to you really.

They do help but you have to make sure they are quality and that you take with food when it's recommended, not with caffinated drinks etc...
I have a condition called pernicious anemia and all I have to do is make sure I take vitamin B drops under my tongue. If I don't within a few days I know it. I am positive whole foods and vitamins work.
