Charlie horses are just small, localized cramps, usually in the legs. Cramps are usually caused by mild dehydration, a lack of potassium or sodium, or excess exercise. Many women get leg cramps either right before menstruation or during the first two or three days due to the loss of water and the chemical imbalances that occur as blood leaves the body.

Try drinking a glass of water, grapefruit, or orange juice, or Gatorade or PowerAde before bed. Stay away from caffeine three to four hours before bed, and try reducing your salt intake at dinner. Bananas or tomatoes as an evening snack can even out your potassium levels.

Lack of potassium or salt. Eat a banana or consume some salt. It could also be a lack of water intake. So. . . eat a banana, chips and a glass of water lol
