Right now I'm 12. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, i have swim team from 4 to 5 pm, right after school(except on Wednesdays when i can go home first for like an hour) .On Tuesday and Thursday i have tennis for an hour and a half, right after school. Nothing on the weekends though. Is this too much exercise by itself? I am thinking about joining the water polo team in the spring. this would be on Tuesday and Thursdays 45 minutes after tennis. water polo is an hour and a half. Is this (water polo, swimming, and tennis) the perfect amount of exercise, too much, or too little. I asked my doctor and she just told me i would need some time for my muscles to rebuild themselves. I would really like to join the water polo club, but my mom says she thinks it would be too much exercise. I'm not quite sure what to do. Please help!

at your age you should not think too much about these things

i have no doubt that you would be able to do it (i used to swim 7 sessions (about 25km a week) a week as well as school footy), and polo and swimming are fun but in the end i burnt out, i was always tired and i ended up loosing a couple of kilos before i stopped because i was doing so much excercise and not taking in enough energy and because i was doing it so often i got bored of it. However i still swim and play water polo for school.

so i say that you go for it but make sure that ur still enjoying it and are eating and sleeping and studying enough so that your still ok.

hope this helps.

PS if ur worried bout growing n all that stuff c a doctor, i wouldnt listen to the people here because u cant tell if their a doctor or som1 who spends all day on the net. i did the same as u n now im 6 feet

You're at an age where excercising is necessary, but muscle building aerobics that you are partaking in can be very dangerous. You're at the toughest stages of puberty & the only problem you can have is stunting your growth. I don't think your excercising is a bad thing at all... it's good to know you arent stuck at home playing video games. But just keep off weight lifting & you should be fine. Obviously your mom might be an over achiever & just wants the best for you. Water Polo might be too strenuous on your muscles... But running/ Swimming shouldn't be a problem

If you don't believe me bout the weight-lifiting/stunting growth, then just look at all the male gymnasts-- they're tiny!!

Perhaps it would be too much running around for your mother to cope with. But if you can manage all that, and still have energy to concentrate in school, then it's probably ok. The doctor could have a point though, you need time to let your muscles recover and grow.

All world champion athletes, all olympic athletes exercised like that when they were your age. You have nothing to worry about except balancing your exercise with your schoolwork and other areas of your life.

Make sure you have enough time for school. I have been in sports all my life and i went from basketball to baseball to football and soccer all the time. You can do it and it isn't bad for you, just have time for school work, sleep, and healthy eating. If you enjoy doing it, do it. have fun and good luck

When do you have the time to be a kid. I think you have enough on your plate for now. You have your whole life ahead of you.
