I've been on Wellbutrin for about 8 years. For me it has been, by far the best antidepressant. It helps the most with the fewest side effects. In fact the only side effects I've ever had from it is loss of appetite in the very beginning and hot flashes when my dose was raised from 300 to 450. (I've since stayed at 300.)
Studies showed an incidence of seizures is between 1-4 in every 1000 people, so it isn't a terribly high risk. It is dose related, so higher doses have a higher risk. People who have ever had a seizure should not take this medication. Head injury and eating disorders are also reasons not to take it.
I've been on Lexapro too, but the sexual side effects made it not worth it, despite the fact that it did work as an antidepressant (the same was true for Effexor, Zoloft and Celexa.)
I don't know of Wellbutrin helping your sex drive so much as it doesn't effect/diminish it. Also, when depression is lifted, that tends to help the libido.
The good thing is, usually libido returns fairly quickly once you go off of the medication that is lowering it.

Well, I am on both. I absolutely hate taking Lexapro because of the no sex drive thing, but I am a royal beeeaaaatttttccccch without it. Welbutrin is the best antidepressant on the market if you are trying to lose weight. Yes it can cause seizures but only if you take more than you are supposed to. Make sure you take it early in the morning because if not it will keep you awake at night. Good luck.

I have been on Welbutrin for 23 days now, so I am still in the side effect stage. The side effects for me suuuuuuuuuuuucked! I had constapation ( thats like a fear of mine) Bad headaches, touching my forhead hurt! I felt like I was going to vomit for most of the days, I broke out.. I am not sure if welbutrin did that but I plan on blaming the drug because it makes me feel better.
Today, 23 days later is the first day I am feeling ok, though I am still not that hungry ( woohoo bonus!!)
It was hard going but I have heard so many possitive things about welbutrin so I wanted to stay on them until I found out how they effected my mood.. I still am not sure but I think I am feeling better. .I will update as the days go by.
I say try it, I have a sensitive stomach so maybe thats why I got those side effects, plus I am on cipralex as well and their side effects are the same so I got double the chances of getting those side effects.

Oh yeah, I am taking 300mg, 150 in the morning and 150 at night.. yes it does a number on your sleeping patterns but thats what sleep eze is for ( that works by the way)

Funnily enough I used to be on Wellbutrin and now I am starting Lexapro. For me, Wellbutrin didn't do anything, including curbing my smoking. I never felt any side-effects from it, but it didn't do what it was supposed to for me either. You will have to give it time to work, that is the most important thing. I was told that it takes six weeks for Wellbutrin to work and I took it for four months. Unfortunately medicines for mental illnesses are hit and miss; nothing works for everyone.
