If you're trying too hard to find a groundbreaking new "concept", it's not gonna happen on your first try--especially if you're thinking too much of what people will think of it. Just start with what you like and what you're interested in and keep pushing it till you feel you've found "it". Start with what inspires you and always keep your eye open and a camera and journal handy. Go to a museum and see a show. Read on artists or just in general--ask your professor if he has anny recommendations. Or just... READ (it helps A LOT believe me). And you know what, a concept can be as simple as a consistent subject matter. As long as you're sincere about what you do and why, then everything just falls into place.

The problem is that you do not understand how good art comes about.

An artist; say van Gogh, does not sit down and try to think of a concept, the proceed to complete a picture illustrating that concept.

What happens is that vana Gogh posits himself within a tradition (in his case based on Millet and Dutch Realism of the 17th c) and after having made some pictures very similar to his favourite artists finds himself developing along a particular stylistic course.

So I would therefore suggest, that you find an artist or a school of aartists you like.

Then copy one of thier pictures (not from a book, but from going to your art gallery0.

Then try to make a picture in the same way as he/she did.

I think after you have one this you will not want for ideas about how to develop.

Read Gombrich, "art and illusion"

Enjoy.

you shouldn't be a Fine Arts student, if you are creative enough to come up with concepts and ideas

make a map mind. write your name in the middle of a large blank piece of paper. then write topics around it, such as... politics, love, partnership, family, country, books, songs... then start on each topic, writing down one word that yu think of in relation to the topic. in a vertical line, do it with each of the topics, then underline or circle the words that repeat the most. those are your interests. read and investigate about them. and most importantly, even if you do not have a concept, work creates work. don't stop working. if you are stuck, copy what you see in front of you, and ideas will pop up.

just look at art....different types and mediums....don't restrict yourself to just paintings to get ideas for paintings. look at sculptures, graphics, life, clay, metals, jewelry, everything. you don't need to come up with an original idea...just a new twist on it... listen to music....paint what you hear....abstract....what does the music make you feel. take something common and everyday and enlarge it to the point of almost unrecognizable and paint it in great detail or very abstract....

Look around. Paint what you see. Paint a childhood memory that makes you smile.

If you can't get ideas now, perhaps you should switch majors...

What do you generaly prefer painting.....Selet that theme. Close your eyes. Don't think colour, think arrangements with light and shadows. keep it simple. draw pictures that are controlable in size. the same jubject can be altered till you are satisfied. Remember your composition makes a world of difference.
