A 'putt' is a stroke taken, usually on the green but not always and it is generally taken with a golf club named 'the putter' although you can use any one of the clubs in your bag which is usually fourteen which is the maximum number that you are allowed to have with you during a round of golf. A 'birdie' is a term for a score of one less than the score that you are supposed to take on any given hole, which is called par. If you start getting them, keep playing, you are getting good.
