My son has a ear infection and the doctor wrote him out Omnicef (100ML bottle) and do you know how much i had to pay for it?
$202.00
Can you believe this and how is it pharmacies can charge this much when you know good and well that they don't give that much for it.

I do have insurance but it is not worth nothing when it comes to filling meds and they said that this infection medicine was better for ear infections.

It's not the pharmices that are charging that. It's the drug corp. That's outrageous. Is there a way your doctor can write a cheaper script? Ask him/her about that. That's outrageous!!! I hope you child gets better soon.

Because Omnicef is fairly new to the market, it's not off patent yet, so there's no generic. $202 is a bit much, here in NY cash price is about $150 or so.
If your son has had several ear infections, this is probably the best medication for him, but next time - see if the doctor has samples. (Tell him you have sucky prescription coverage.)

I think we had this medication a month or so ago and we paid $48.00 for it. I will be sure to ask the PED the next time we have an ear infection NOT to write a prescription for that med.
There is NO generic of it and it is new, so it's is expensive! I agree medicine and medical care in this country is stupid expensive if you don't have a plan that covers care or medicine.
My husbands plan is over $800.00 a month for three of us to be on his insurance, so I have individual coverage for me and the two kids. It's stupid what it costs and what things are not covered because it is not a group plan.
Try going to a Walmart, Costco, Sams Club if you have one near you to get cheaper prescriptions. Or at least call there first to see what their charges are. Sometimes they are cheaper. You don't have to be a club member to get meds at Costco or Sams.

Standard treatment for ear infections is pain killers. If it is severe, normally an antibiotic like amoxicillin is used. A truly severe ear infection would then try other antibiotics. Omnicef is a third generation cephalosporin, a newer one.

That bottle of antibiotic cost around twelve cents to manufacture. The bottle actually cost more than the contents. What the drug companies are doing is passing along the costs of research and development to you, along with the cost of advertising. The one unjustified expense is the advertising, upon which they spend millions of dollars. Congress should outlaw those ads; they're unethical and misleading. That alone could cut your costs by two thirds! But guess what: the freaks at the pharmaceutical companies pay lots of money to politicians to keep them from acting in OUR best interests! And it's not illegal...

It is legal to order a 3 month supply of medicine at one time. You should consider doing some inquiry first before buying from any online pharmacy. Those untrusted sources usually give very little details on particular crucial issues.
You should be able to get enough and convincing info after searching from such engines such as Google and from lists of legit pharmacies directory, where you can order with out prescription.
Pharmacies accredited by the VIPPS or Vet-VIPPS programs without prescription.

dependant upon the state you live in and the amount of money you make there are programs that will help you pay for doctors visits and prescriptions for children. If you are unsure of where to go seek out your local WIC office.
As for prescriptions always ask your doctor to write it for the Generic versions.
