I like this guy but he is really shy and i have a hard time striking up conversations with him....what should I do?

Well, try finding out if you have any common interests. For there to be a friendship (or something more!), it would be a great help if you had a common ground to push off from. Does he know you by sight, or even better, name? How do you know him? You could try the classic 'accidentally on purpose bump into him then appologise' . Compliment him on something, ask him if he's good at something (which hopefully you already knew beforehand) and ask for his help, casually mention where you were going or what you were doing...chat a bit. Get to know each other better. Sometimes shy people are quite willing to open up when there's only one person at first, who can keep the conversation going by asking questions, and acts naturally.

He needs to feel at ease with you. That will take time. Shyness is not the real person, they are hiding within and if you can hang in there he will think the world of you.
Give him a helping hand. Ask questions, see what makes him tick, avoid personal subjects as he will withdraw. Patience ;-)

Just try to talk about easy going topics- like school or work, how the weekend was, even the weather if need be!
As he gets to know you, maybe he'll warm up to you and your conversations will be easier.
Please don't go flashing skin or dressing out of character- let him know the real you!

Smile at him and say hi everytime you see him. Also try to make and keep eye contact with him as long as he is willing. He should get the message from this. Then try to make conversation with him. He should feel more comfortable around you.

you can sit closer and take a move on him.
i am so into shy guy too, so, i just take the move. it is much easier, and they love it too.
life is complicated, and you don't have to make it worse. the stright forward way is easy!

Find out something you both have in common. or something you know he likes to do or talk about. that works everytime.
