THey say if you're on a diet a safe amount to consume is no less than 10-12 calories per pound of body weight. So, a 150-pound person should be having about 1500 calories a day on a diet.

There really is no magic system to tell you how many calories you consume. What you should do is stick to a meal plan (I recomend South Beach Diet), and if your trying to loose weight keep in mind you need to burn more calories in a week than you consume in a day. EX: if you have a 2,500 calorie diet you need to burn at 3,000 calories in a week to loose at least 1 lb

I agree with the earlier poster who said 1000 calories per 100 lbs of weight. Take your current weight and add a "0" to the end for a rough estimate.
That varies, of course, with your age and physical activity. There's this site I used to go to called fitday.com, you can get a free membership, you enter all your personal data, and it calculates an estimate of how many calories you should take a day. It also includes a diet and fitness journal for you to record your progress and compare what you've eaten to your target caloric intake.

go to calorie-count.com
to lose a lb of weight u need to decrease calories by 3500.
a normal female is supposed to have approx. 1500-1800 depending on lifestyle.
a normal male is supposed to have around 1800-2000.
cut calories by about 500 a day to lose 1 lb a week.
also u can add up all the calories u are burning at gym and other activities to figure up your count.
