There is no set set way. When ever you give food to someone, you just want to make certain that it is still good. Just be sure that it is safely and securely wrapped and at a stable temperature.

First of all, you have been nice enough to open your home to host someone else's birthday. It is not up to you to act like a courier service running someones left over cake all over creation. You would be well within your right to asks them to come get it if they want it.

Before going through all this trouble I would call them ask if they want the cake back. Maybe they don't! If they don't want it then throw it out or give it to a friend. If they do want the cake then wrap it up safely and either drop it off or have them come get it.

Good luck!

I would casually ask the Birthday person if they wanted the leftover cake first. (If you remember to do it before they leave, that's best. If not, the next day should be fine.) The Birthday person may actually be avoiding the leftover cake just as you are. If the person doesn't want it, take it to work. Where I work, leftover food disappears FAST, especially desserts. If you don't work in a place where you can take it... I guess just throw it away... so sad.

If you are hosting the birthday party, the correct thing to do is to give them their cake as they are leaving the party you threw for them. You would never want them to have to return to your home to retrieve their cake, it should be offered to them. When I have hosted parties in the past as my home, I would offer everyone to take home a plate, and if there was leftover cake then the birthday honoree would take it home.

I wouldn't worry about returning the cake. Either freeze it or throw it away. Next time, offer it to the person before they leave.

I have never heard of this. But I am assuming that they are close to you if they wanted to have cake at your house. I would just call and tell them you have wrapped it or covered it for them and want to know if they want you to bring it by. If not, then freeze it for yourself for later.

Left over cake? Never heard of such a thing. Is this some sort of off-brand religious celebration?
