Cats like to pee where they've been before so it's important to get rid of as much smell as possible.

A good way to do this is to wash the stained area in non-bio washing powder solution (test a small area first). Then when it is dry, spray or dab a small amount of surgical spirit onto the area.

This should mask the smell and stop her going there again.

You could also try a small amount of Vicks Vaporub or something like that on the area as cats generally hate the smell of menthol. You'll need to top it up once or twice a day until she gets the idea.

I bought a product called Urine-off from my vet. I had tried everything else including Nature's Miracle, but this was the only thing that actually got rid of it completely - I am very particular about this issue. It's a little expensive, but it was the only thing that worked. In some cases you need more than one application to get it completely - if its a spot that that's been hit multiple times or if it's an old stain. It's available on-line.

Try rubbing citronella oil by the mat. Cats despise the smell. I'm not sure about getting rid of the smell though. You could put it in the washing machine (we do) or short of that buy a new one if the smell is really bad.

I had tried every thing that the pet stores sell and vinegar (which I used to think helped) with no luck. The only successful thing I found to use for anything I couldn't throw in the washing machine was from a friend who cleaned carpets professionally. He uses Un-Duz-It. It's the best stuff. I've moved out of state and had to call janitorial cleaning supply companies to find it. Do a search online for it and try to find it in your area.

At your animal feed & grain store, pet store, or various other cleaning supply stores, there is a very good product on the market called "Nature's Miracle" this is exactly what it is for. It's an enzyme cleaner and deodorizer, and works very well. As far as I know, this is NOT something that you can pick up at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.

destroy the offending doormat and replace with disposible material in the same place, along with a fresh litter tray.Cats are very clean animals so encourage the naughty one to use the tray when indoors, give lots of praise for good behaviour and ignore bad behaviour.Clean cat smell areas with a solution of white vinegar

1 part white vinegar to 5 parts water, pour into spray bottle and spray on mat, cats hate vinegar so wont go there again. also try sprinkling mat with bicarbonate of soda, leave for 15 mins then hoover off, it will remove any smells

Hi there...consider Nature's Miracle Just For Cats found worldwide at most pet stores. It's an enzymatic neutralizer which works by breaking down urine proteins by thoroughly soaking the areas affected and allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas.

We've tested nearly all enzyme neutralizers available in the marketplace for our exotic cats which have stronger urine than domestic cats and found that Nature's Miracle Just for Cats has always worked the best.

If your cats are not spayed/neutered they may continue to spray urine on the mat. If they are spayed/neutered consider having them for a lower urinary tract disorder that may be a possible cause for this as well.

I even put it away for weeks, but when i brought it back out he did it again, I got rid of it, got a new cat bed for him and he's never done it since!
