It's just loyalty. It takes a whole lot of abuse to make an animal hate you.

I have 3 cats and they always pile in the washroom. My one cat smoky always comes in when I'm on the toilet,my other one Magic comes in when I have a bath and sits on the edge of the tub the whole time, last but not least theres Jasper who likes to sit on the toilet when I brush my teeth and wash.I have no idea why considering cats hate water. It's very cute though.

I've had 2 cats do this. One was a female, the other male.
My little girl cat loved the warmth of the bathroom and it was part of our morning routine for her to 'take a shower with me'. She would follow me into the bathroom, curl up on the fuzzy toilet lid cover, and take a 'schvitz' (yiddish for 'steam') while I showered. As soon as the shower was over, she'd boogie. She's been dead a few years now.
My male, the newest addition to my household, is obsessed with the bathtub. He LOVES to get in the tub and roll around in it. He's also very nosy, and as he gets more relaxed in my household, he gets bolder every day, banging open the bathroom door like a dog. He's taken to sitting outside the shower doors and staring up into them while I shower. I'm sure it's the water that fascinates him, splashing, beading & rolling down the shower doors.
So, I guess from all the responses, you see that they want different things from the 'bathroom'. I think a lot of it may really have to do with the warmth of the room, and the fact that they love to be close to you.

The answer to this question should be relatively simple. Considering the cat has no idea your are in the bathroom and attending to business of your own, leaves me to think the cat just wants to be near you. The cat must really love you to follow you into the bathroom, as most cats are so independent they don't care where you go..
My little dog will lay outside the shower on the bath mat and wait for me to get out.. I can only imagine what she must be thinking.
I love these little critters they are just so curious.
God Bless all animal lovers

My cats do it too but I think it's because they know I'll flush the toilet when I'm done and for some strange reason they like to watch the water go down. I don't know, I guess it doesn't take much to make them happy, lol.

Because cats know that you will be sitting on the toilet and will have nothing better to do than to pet them! :)

I can almost guarantee that you have a male cat. I dunno....but, all my "boys" have a thing for wanting to play in the toilet water and I keep the lid down. They are totally fascinated by the flushing and watching the water go down the hole. I've never had a "Lady" kitty do this. And, who knows?.
--all the "boys" will follow you to the bathroom. Close the door before they get in if it bothers you. I've gotten used to it.

well mine follows because she wants to drink from the tap. cats naturally love water fountains/falls. A way to stop her from following is to buy a water flowing water bowl. We have a really cool one, not sure the name but if you're interested email me and I will take a picture of it for you. She still will occasionally come into the bathroom but before I pretty much couldn't get her out of there and the water bill was starting to get pretty big.

Cats are attracted to the sound of running water. Cats are also very loyal and will follow thier owner just about anywhere.
