Dark colors close in spaces. White paint is unforgiving and harsh. To give depth and space illusion, paint ceiling white and a neutral off-white shade for the walls. I have done this for many years--gives the feeling of light, airy space, and most imp. with a neutral color, you can change your room decor more cheaply with different spreads, curtains, pillows and avoid getting bored with a color scheme. Neutral paint colors some in many shades and intensities (creamy off-white, oyster shell, antique white to golden tints, bluish tints, or linen or khacki tints). Bright colors of spreads, curtains, pillows look great against neutral backgrounds.

I would recommend a light color, that she likes. Let her choose, but remember it always looks darker on the walls compared to the color on the little swatch sample. This choice could be light yellow, light blue, light green, light aqua (highly recommended) or any other light color. I also would suggest a solid colored comforter. If you decide on the light aqua walls, a turquoise comforter would be an option. Solid colored curtains, would also be a plus. De-clutter the room as much as possible. Keep it simple and organized. As far as wall decor goes, don't get huge posters or prints. The more wall space that shows, the larger the room will feel. Even if the room is a smaller size, it can still be made very nice and a pleasure to spend time in. Good luck!!!

Any pastel shade of any color will make your room appear larger; white's ok if you want something as a backdrop for your bed, etc., but you could go with any colors in your accessories; bedspread, etc...and use that color in a pastel...stay away from 'bright' colors as they will become tiresome after a very short time!! email me if you have any further questions...good luck!!

Light colors make a room feel bigger and brighter. Depending on your tastes, I would recommend a pastel yellow, light blue, or pale pink.

Pastels always make a room look bigger. Try to stay away from light greens though as these can really get to you.
