What is more important to you - a smooth, comfortable ride.... Or, a less comfortable ride with better traction in the rain?

The majority of my driving is on dry roads. So, a cushy ride is definately appreciated. However, I am a very nervous driver in the rain & I am scared of hydroplaning. So, is it better to sacrifice some comfort on the dry roads in order to have better grip on the wet roads?

Most of the tires built today for "touring" have great comfort and wet handling ability. There is no need to sacrifice one for the other. Your better brands of tires will serve you better in this situation: Michelin, Toyo, Bridgestone, etc. When you go to the tire shop, let them know exactly what you want and expect from your new tires. They should be able to steer you in the right direction.

If you are nervous about hydroplaning, don't be. You only need to learn how to handle your car in this situation. The instant you feel your car lose traction, stab the brakes. This is a quick, hard push on the pedal, and you let off instantly. This will bring the weight of the car forward onto the front wheels and cause you to regain traction. Now that you have control, slow down about 10 mph. If it happens again, repeat the above procedure, and slow down even more.

I hope this helps.
