This thermometer (see link) scans over the forehead. It is as accurate as a rectal thermometer and comes highly recommended from pediatricians. I love mine and I don't know what I did without it. Oh, and it only takes a couple of seconds to read the temperature.

ETA: My pediatrician said you usually need to add a degree with the ear and armpit thermometers because they are so inaccurate.

First and foremost you dnt have to use that method to check your childs temp. There are several other ways that you can check a child, or baby's temp that will be less rude to preform upon them. First is as I noticed previously someone has an ear therm, you can also take axillary temp by placing the Thermomator under the childs arm in the center of the armpit and hold it there till it stops. However remember to add one degree to the number to make it more accurate.

All in all though the only 100% accurate way of taking a temp is in the butt for it never opens unless you are using it to expell substances.

You can do this to an adult, if they will sit still.
So if he will sit still while you do it then keep it up. That is the MOST accurate temp spot on any person. Just remember to subtract a degree when you take the temp there to get the true reading.

I stopped when mine where just over a year, but that was because neither one would hold still. I find under the arm works best. My three year old knows when I say "let's check your numbers" that we need to take her temp under her arm. I try to get her to focus on the numbers changing and waiting to hear the beep. My son is more squirmy at 15 months and that is more a challenge.

hello,
I have never use the butt way. I have used the arm pit. If you hold the arm against the side and talk to the child to keep them distracted if should work. It is accurate this way. Also, the ear thermometers are the best to use digitally. I use those slim digital ones for his arm pit.
Best of luck
God bless

Hi. My son will be two in 3 weeks and I switched to under the arm about 2 months ago. You just add 1 degree to that number. Try to do it when he's paying attention to something else, so that he doesn't move. Or, get him to name colors, shapes, etc, redirecting works every time!
