surely a guy of 29 years (with no baggage) would want to settle down?

People like it when they can have things for free, regardless of age.

It depends on the guy and some other factors actually....

Some guys have been hurt in the past and don't want to open themselves up to that again. In that sort of situation, it's something of a test.

Some are already in relationships and looking for "something on the side" that won't ruin what they've already got.

Moreso, sometimes a guy says that to a girl who doesn't strike him as "relationship material", whether it's because the attraction is purely physical... or he doesn't feel the girl is trustworthy... or he's just really not that into her.

As a 27 year old guy, yes, I do want to settle down at some point in the near-future. But that doesn't mean that I'm willing to do it for just anyone. She'd have to be something very special (and the one I'm talking to most definitely is. I just need to play my cards right.)

Just because a guy its 29 does not mean he is ready to settle down.
I mean, 29 is the age a lot of females start to get antsy about getting married, because they have a biological clock to think about.
Anyway, most men at 29 are still establishing themselves in their career.

Surely you jest.

Age is no indication of emotional maturity, or willingness to settle down. He may feel if he can get away with a "no strings" relationship, why get involved with all that commitment crap? Why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free, and I'm not necessarily talking about just sex.

A lot of women feel this way too. It's not just guys. Some people are just not the type to settle down and prefer to date openly.
Different strokes for different folks.

Because guys want to have their cake and eat it too. Why settle down when girls will give them what settled down guys have without having to settle down? Example: guy dates a girl and they have sex relatively early in the relationship/dating. Why should he want to marry her when she's willing to commit and give him what married people have? Then he's stuck with her. Surely any guy that sensible girls would want to date would be ready to settle down by 29, but guys that don't want to settle down aren't guys we want to hang out with.

There are men that want a real relationship but there are also the "no strings' type. These men simply want to have sex with you and then go on to the next. Steer clear of these types. You can't change them, they can only change themselves. It usually comes when they start feeling that 'empty' feeling that you get from a shallow and meaningless life.

Maybe he just doesn't like you all that much.
Just because he's 29 doesn't mean he should be desperate to settle down with the wrong person.

If you want to settle down and he doesn't then it's time to move on I think.

They just want to have fun. If they settle too early they may end up regretting.it. So I would just let them get on with it as long as they don't hurt anybody on the way. And let the person they are seeing know the score.

Guys like that just want to have some fun and some action. It's like having a relationship for convenience.

Wanting to settle down is about maturity, not physical age.
