Depending on where you live is what my first answer would be, however...if you watch the news..there is no longer any protection in living in a "small town" instead of a big city. I have three boy's, my eldest is 16 and a half, a 14 yr, and 12 yr...I can say only with your brother easy to the younger ones, but I have to say I don't let them go off alone anymore. We live in the best part of medium sized city here in the Northeast of the country...and in all honesty if I can't see my younger boy's from the kitchen window or know who's house they are at...they don't go..end of story. My eldest boy is starting to drive now and my boys are not small either, they have all taken martial art's classes and play the usual sports, and they all have the same rules...where are you going, who are you going with..what time will you be back, call me if you need a ride etc. We don't have a dog or pet to walked, and they did have it easier with crossing the street and walking together, but I didn't allow that till my eldest was 13! (by himself) Some might call me over protective...but, this is not the same world we grew up in...when you could stay out till the street lights came on either. Hope this helps...Take Care.

For a son, 15 or 16. For a daughter, never. If I didn't want to go to the park, I would stick a lawn chair at the end of the driveway and keep an eye out.
I might feel a bit more secure of my teen being by themself if the dog is a Rottweiler or Doberman - a large, dominant breed with strong protective instinct.

With as many perverts out there.....maybe 16 but that's pushing it for me....I know that sounds harsh but it's my husband's and I's job to protect her to the best of our ability until she's 18. I don't want her to live in a bubble but she is our whole entire world and our most precious treasure...I want her to understand how dangerous the world can be and I'm not sure that a 11 or 12 year old would be able to weigh out enough judgement if someone was trying to lure them away. Just my opinion

If I had a child, I probably wouldn't let them go anywhere alone until they were old enough to have either a gun or a cell phone.

It depends on the maturity of the child really. But I would need to be able to see him/her at all times.

My kids are 24 and 26 and I still don't like it.

i wouldnt let my children go alone to the park ever. unless they have friends with them, and are mature enough, and are old enough to understand the dangers of what could happen to them, there are alot of weirdos out there. if i couldnt see them, i wouldnt let them go without me.
