So, we got a new cat, and my dog eats her food(of course), we let him because he doesn't eat much of it and she eats his as well, but since he has started eating her food his breath is RANK! and i mean the kind of breath you can smell from a mile away. I brush his teeth regularly (once or twice a month) but nothing seems to help. i can't keep him away from her food so what can i do to freshen him up? Thanks!

The cat food shouldn't be a problem. He's probably at the age where he's cutting his teeth, and YEAH, it stinks. You could go to the petsmart and buy some greenies (they help freshen breath) or you could buy Doggie breath strips. If you want to go for the natural approach, apples are great breath fresheners. :)

There are a few reasons that is causing your dog's bad breath. If the smell is very bad, it could be that he has a bad tooth and possibly an infection. These can both cause very bad breath. The best way to correct these problems is to have your vet clean your dog's teeth and if he has any teeth with cavities or are infected or rotten, they will have to remove them. The vet has to use general anesthesia because it is the best way for your vet to thoroughly clean and examine your dog's teeth. A dog's diet can cause bad breath. If they eat canned dog food or a lot of people food, they can cause bad teeth, gums and bad breath. Also if your dog has an infection, then your dog will need to take antibiotcs. I don't think that eating the cat food has anything to do with your dogs breath. He is probably eating the cat poop. Or perhaps he has some rotten teeth.

Have his teeth checked by your vet. In the mean time you can get cheweis with Chlorapyill (sp) or get some straight Chloraphyil from the drugh store.

You know how some resataunts place a piece of parsely on your plate? This is meant to be chewed to get rid of bad breath from eating garlic or onions etc. It contains the Chloraphyil to help us and it will do the same thing for your dog.

You can feed them in two different locations or put the cat food up on a counter or special table just for cat food and water.

The cat food wont be helping your dogs breath, and cat food is bad for dogs to eat if they eat it regulary and in large quantities as its to rich in protein for dogs.Make sure your dog is eating a good complete dog food not meat as this helps his teeth stay in good condition and reduces tartar building up.Also give him some hard chew toys as this will also help keep his teeth clean.
