My fridge is about 6 months old and the ice has a bad smell and taste. It wasn't there before and it isn't the water. Ice from trays is good.

take out the ice maker and clean it thoroughly with vinegar. from what you've stated, the only place the ice could be getting stinky is from the water sitting in the icemaker.
it still seems unusual to me though, if the water is coming from the same source, why a 6 month old fridge would have stinky ice???
it may simply be that you need to put baking soda in your fridge or clean it because the ice in the maker is more apt to absorb bad smells from the fridge than ice you are making in trays.
the ice that is made in the ice makers is more open to the air as it is frozen than the ice that just sits in the trays and freezes, thereby allowing the ice maker ice to potentially absorb more foul odors

There is something else in the freezer or fridge that is causing the ice to taste bad .I recommend to clean your fridge and freezer and your ice trays or maker and put a box of baking soda in each side. The baking soda will absorb the odors from the foods so your ice won't also throw away foods that have become old and or freezer burned and store foods in air tight containers in your fridge.

Ice maker. that is a discomfort contained in the butt to ought to continuously smash out ice and top off the trays. I actually have a refrigerator with an ice maker and the water and ice dispenser contained in the door. that's sweet.

It could be your water if it isn't filtered. If not, it's probably food odors coming through from refrigerator which I think circulates same air. Try a product called FRIDGE-IT odor absorbers. I've used it and love it. Really gets rid of fridge odors and does keep my ice tasting AND smelling fresh. Doesn't cost much and you can find it in stores like walmart and linens and things. Try it. It's easy and it works.

Clean the ice maker with vinegar and salt.

Otherwise you can cover it up with baking soda but that does not fix the problem.
