The traditional stars that people get just outlined or colored in represent something. I just wanted a little insight about what that is.

I have 7 tattoos.

I only regret one, and it's being replaced soon. It's one of those tattooes you wake up with, of a badly drawn cartoon magic mushroom doing a little dance.

I also have a star tattoo, a pentacle actually in the the center of a black sun.

And no, pentacles aren't any more satanic than crosses, either right-side up OR upside down. The people who tell you they are don't know jack **** about them and make it up as they go along. I really, really, REALLY wish they'd just shut it and let the people who actually know answer.

The traditional star is the path Venus takes in the night sky over time. It is a symbol that comes from ancient religions that studied the stars and worshipped Venus and other "stars". For many religions, Venus was a sign of a goddess, and many early religions revolved around goddess worship.

What stars mean today is anyone's guess. People adopt symbols to their own outlooks/beliefs. Some groups see them as a link to ancient religions and/or recently rediscovered religions like Wicca. Some ill-informed groups have adopted the Catholic church's label of "satanic" and use it as a symbol of satan worship. Some people probably just think it's a cool looking symbol. :-)

This is an awesome question. I want to get a tattoo of a star myself but I have hesitated b/c I've seen so many people with it, and I need to know what it means before I commit it to my body permanently. Hopefully someone has the answer :-D

Stars have a number of meaning depending on the culture you look at. To certain subcultures, like prison inmates, a tatoo star may have some meaning, but those are most likely not recognized by general society.

If it is upside down, it is a symbol of the rams head, a satanic symbol.

I would much prefer to provide the link than to cut and paste someone elses work.
They have a lot to say about the star, outlined, filled, etc.

They call them "tramp stamps" for a reason ! Who cares what some idiot tells you they are supposed to mean. Having one means you are just as much an idiot as the person who talked you into getting one.

It means that they are idiots for getting a tattoo in the first place.

I'm sure it has something to do with Satan, although they will deny it.
