Its called stress incontinence and its common in women who have had children. Coughing increases intra abdominal pressure and puts pressure on the bladder. The bladder cannot hold the urine properly so either leaks or in severe cases, empties completely. Sneezing, laughing and fast movements can also cause the problem. It can be treated with pelvic floor exercises (do them after you have a baby!!!) and sometimes is amenable to drug treatment or surgery;

Coughing and sneezing can have the same effect on relaxing your muscles, everywhere. If you muscles have become weakened for whatever reason, having a baby, surgery etc, then these sudden movements / reactions can occur. Thats why you are meant to do pelvic floor excercises to tighten up your muscles down there !!

When you cough, stomach muscles are used and they are pushing on your bladder, hence the problem with wetting.

I know it happens to women who have had a natural deliver when they had their babies, since it is pretty harsh for the body that it affects the bladder! :)

pelvic floor movement is related to muscular contractions when you cough sneeze and so on
you cough and sneeze with your butt to put it bluntly

Its all about muscles and the weakness of them etc..... it's all connected... should have taken more notice in Biology!
