The 150 and 250 and 350 are all size differences. If you want a bigger truck, get the bigger class. They usually come with bigger motors, different trans, and different lifts. 150 4x4 w v8 is good offroad. if you dont have 4x4 forget it. And remember you are going to proabbly put at least 6in of lift on any truck to do some good offroading so be prepared to spend about 3gs so you can make your truck ready. So dont waste all your money on a nice truck. I have a 2004 silkverado 4x4 1500 z71. Its nice, i am a chevy guy but i can do ford. But just make sure its 4x4 and you have the right suspension and stabalizers. good luck

The different numbers are an easy glance reference to determine weight class. The F-150 is a half-ton truck, the F-250 a 3/4 ton truck, and a F-350 is a one ton truck. What this means is the rated carrying capacity of the truck. There are also F-450, F-550, F-650, and F-750, which are: 1 and a 1/4, 1 and a 1/2, 2, and 2 and a 1/2 ton respectively. If they are equipped with 4x4 or "four-wheel-drive" then they will be well equipped to go off-road.

150, 250, 350, size and weight. There is also a 350 HD (Heavy Duty) with a beefed up frame. Yes, with 4 wheel drive you can go off road, but there is no guarantee that you won't get stuck.

As you go up in size you also get dual tires on the back.

It all depends how extreme youre planning to 4wd. The f-truck range is good but ive always considered them to be more of city vehicles. For a reliable inexpensive powerful large 4wd I'd recommend looking into the landcruiser range.
