He was dewormed on the 8th of this month...will the vet just give him more of the same medicine or is there something else that they can do?

The puppy may have a tapeworm. This is caused by eating a flea. The vet can give the puppy one dose of medication that will rid the puppy of the tapeworm if it is determined that this is indeed the problem.

A sick young puppy with three children. Wow that's a lot. I have to admire that you have been able to get through this so far. You might want to try calling the shelter to see if they can recommend a trainer to help you. Many good shelters have trainers on staff and as shelter members. They are good resources. While you are on the phone ask about the kennel cough issue too. There may be some reimbursement. I don't know how old your children are, but maybe see if they can help you with some of the basic care since it's their puppy too. Rigth now put the little pup outside to potty, feed him, put him in his crate and have a big cup of coffee to try and regroup. You have a right to be happy. Sounds like you need to get away from the puppy and the children for awhile. Do you have a friend that you can call? It is easy to get very overwhelmed in all of this especially with no sleep. Don't worry, your house most likely doesn't smell bad. After all you cleaned to pup and his kennel. If it does there's always air freshener. Try not to sweat the small stuff right now. It'll be better with some sleep and fresh air.

go back to the vet and they will deworm it again. Take a feces sample in with u. Since it has been wormed on the 8th it reinfested. usually pups poop the worms from deworming within 24 hours. NOT a week or so later.

try getting him some panacure. This a dewormer that you can actually buy and most local pet stores and if they don't have it available then try going to 1800petmeds.com and doing a search for it. Usually it comes in doses according to your dogs current weight and is designed to be given over a short period of time. This stuff will flush out any and all worms your dog might have. Also it is a good idea to deworm your dog about every three months, and you might also look into put him on a heart worm med that is given once a month. This will ensure that your dog stays strong and healthy.

I would call the vet and ask if it is normal for worms to be coming out in the stool when dewormer is given and if it working.

My brother bought a German Shephard on the internet. It took 3 months of vet visits to fully cure him of worms. Your puppy will need de-wormer until he/she is cured. Keep in constant contact with your vet.

if there were a lot of them I would say that the de-wormer is working pretty good. I like to de-worm @ two week intervals until their stool sample is completlly free of larva.

He needs to go back to the vet. There are no at home treatments and he needs to see the vet again to get it taken care of.

That means the meds are doing what they should be and your puppy is getting them out of the body.
