Can birthcontrol pills cause someone to be depressed?

my daughter has been on them about 6 months.(trinessa) I swear she is getting worse. shes moody all the time. one minute shes ok next shes biting heads. seems like shes never happy.

she goes to dr tomm.

Yes!!! Tri-phasal birth control pills, which are the type that have three different levels of hormones per pack, can often cause depression and other side effects. Tri-phase pills don't make sense for regulating your periods because you don't get a steady amount of hormones. I would suggest that your daughter switch to a single-phase, low-dose pill (Yasmin is really good), which will regulate her periods better and will have fewer side effects.

I definately think they can cause depression...i was on a 'triphasal' type of BC pill for 6 months and some of the time i was fine...but for about a week every month i was practically suicidal! It warrants trying a new pill, give it about 3 months for body to adjust (always use back up contraception for 2 weeks when switching pills) perhaps a different type of pill will be better for her. Defiantly, she may be on too high of a dose. She should call her Dr. and tell him/her that she has been taking them for about 6 plus months, not to mention they would know that but, tell them that she is having bad mood swings and that maybe she should be given some other one or maybe she should try some other method of birth control method one w/out the use of hormones. yes, I was on the pill for 13 months but went off it because it made me very depressed... i've heard that different brands are better than others tho, maybe have her talk to the doctor about switching to a different one

if you think that it because if the birth control pills i would take her to the obgyn and have then switch her pills for a different brand

yes, hormones (and birth pills are that) can affect the mood.
