If you are looking for a large category, Mormons are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Because they believe in Jesus, that makes them Christians. So, the religion that Mormons belong to is Christianity. That's "religion" as a large category, meaning that they are not Jews, Muslims or Buddhists.

The next question is whether Mormons (who are so called by the name of their special book, "the Book of Mormon") are truly, genuinely Christians or are really something else, something unique unto themselves. THAT is a highly debatable, controversial issue, because many mainstream Christians (who use only the Old and New Testaments) reject the claims of Mormons to be Christian and therefore would say that, no, Mormons are NOT Christians.

So, under large sociological categories, Mormons are Christians, although a very different branch of Christianity from most Christians. But, under categories defined by mainstream Christians, Mormons are NOT Christian because they worship a different Jesus from the one described uniquely in the New Testament.

At bottom line, pick the type of category you want (broad, sociological or narrow, religious) and then you can answer the question. That's the only way to avoid the argumentation between those who say that Mormonism IS and those who say that Mormonism IS NOT a branch of Christianity.

It is a religion that believe in God the Eternal Father, and in his Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

They are not accepted as Christians, because most Christian churches could not accept that there can be more than one scriptural book that testify of Christ.

Mormons are basically Christians with an extra book. They have differing beliefs as to who Jesus is, but they still look to a Jesus as a savior.

One way to look at them is that they believe in God as the creator, Jesus as the Son (not God) and savior.
