Process in which green house gases, like carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere, cause thermal radiation emitted by the Earth's surface to be reflected back down, therefore causing the climate to warm. This natural process is enhanced by man's added pollutants and can reach proportions at which a number of animal and plant species can be threatened with extinction.

Don't confuse greenhouse effect and global warming. If we didn't have the grrenhouse effect, annual average gloabl temp would be close to 0F rather than approx 40F as it has been. The GH effect is a "normal" occurance whereas global warming is supposedly man-made. Scientists still are not positive that global warming is happening or if it's a cycle our planet is going through. They do believe that GH emmisions aren't helping the "problem" but since no one was around 70 mya... we don't know for sure.

wen carbon dioxide(CO2) gets trapped in the greenhouse it absorbs the heat rays coming in thru the glass but dz not let them go out.thus the air inside is warmed.this is greenhouse effect.
