Get Grannick's Bitter Apple spray & creme. The spray can be used on furniture including upholstery w/out staining. The creme can be applied to wood & hard surfaces w/out damage. It makes everything taste really bitter & awful. We used this with my border collie very effectively.

ALSO - pit bulls are very aggressive chewers (doesn't mean agressive temper - means they chew hard & a lot). Be sure to have LOTS of chew toys around that are okay to chew. Kongs are great. Very tough. When you catch the dog chewing something (has to be caught in the act - not scolded later) tell him NO! & give him the toy to chew instead. Praise him for chewing the toy. As he stops chewing your house, start stuffing the toy w/ treats to encourage him to stay w/ the toy instead of your house. After awhile, he'll be trained to the toy, and you can stop putting treats. Too many treats are unhealthy.

And finally, take the dog to training. SPCA offers training for free or cheap in most locations. Sign up & go w/ the dog yourself. That will establish you as the dog's master, and make life easier for both of you.

Good luck!

There are certain sprays (like Bitter Orange/Bitter Apple) that are designed to discourage dogs from chewing on things that aren't theirs. I've heard mixed results about them, though.

I think the best thing you can do is watch your dog. Every time he starts chewing on something that isn't his, tell him no!, then replace it with one of his toys. This will teach him that there are things that he can chew on. Eventually, he will get to the point where he'll reach for his toys whe he's feeling the urge. Remember to always keep an eye on your dog and don't leave him unattended in a room ever, especially until this problem is fixed.

If you're having problems finding something that he won't destroy, you may want to try Kongs or Busy Buddies. Personally, my dog (who was also a chewer) got bored with the Kong and I like the Busy Buddies better, and they last a long, long time compared to all of his other toys.

Hi. I had the same problem with my pitt mix. What you can do is go to petsmart or petco and buy some yuck spray. Walmart has it too. You can spray it on anything (furniture, wood, clothes, floors) and they wont want to lick or touch it becuase it will taste horrible. And i know becuase if you accidently get it on your fingers and then when eating manage to touch that finger to your mouth its pretty gross. But it works really well our pit stopped chewing on the things he used to when we put this stuff on there. But you have to refresh it every now and then. It costs about 3 to 7$ and its worth it.

This dog is no longer a puppy if he is a year & a half.

He could be bored & antsy. Do you take him for walks? He should be going on a least 3 half hour walks a day.

Buy a huge cured knuckle bone for him to gnaw on, that should keep him away from the doors etc. but it isn't a replacement for exercise.
