I do really really want to give up but am finding it hard. I have cut down a lot and do know all the health risks but need a really big kick up the bum as i keep coming up with silly excuses to put it off.

can anyone offer a little help

seems though that you are not in the right frame of mind.Don"t cut down you have to stop completely,you are still feeding the habit,i know it is hard i gave up 13yrs ago.Try nicotine patches or join a club.I started swimming and went to the gym.You need to take hold of yourself and change your lifestyle a bit

I gave up smoking 6 months ago, and it has made a HUGE difference to my life.
I can smell and taste things now. Food tastes incredible, I can smell the rain coming, or the bbq up the road.
I don't have bad breath.
I don't cough up gunk, or choke when I laugh.
My clothes smell like sunshine and fabric softener, and there is no lingering stale stench hanging around me.
My hair is shiny, and smells nice (or so my gf says). My skin looks and feels so much more healthier.
I can walk up a flight of stairs without getting puffed, in fact I can walk 4 kilometres in 45 mins, and I can even jog during that and my lungs don't hurt.
I sleep all the way through the night, and I don't cough myself to sleep. I also go through the day without being so lethargic and exhausted during the day and even after work, I'm so much more energetic.
I can pay my bills, and buy my groceries, and have a heap of money left over. I actually go out more, and spend a little on my friends now.
I love being a non-smoker now!

I smoked for 14 years, and I hated the smell and taste of it. I hated what it was doing to me. I read Allen Carr's book as well, but it took me getting really sick and unable to breathe that scared me into quitting. Luckily my friends emptied my house of any sign of smoking; lighters, ashtrays, empty smoke packets. I seriously thought I was getting Emphisemia at an early age, and the doctor told me if I quit now, that in ten years it would be as if I had never smoked at all.

I still get cravings, but I remind myself how much better it is to be able to tell people I have never had a smoke since, and remind myself of how bad it will taste and how long it will linger on my tongue, and all the healing my lungs have done, that one cigarette will ruin it.

You will come to a stage where you will be sick of your own silly excuses and just do it.

I'm also trying to give up smoking! I have found that the best thing for me has been Nicotinell patches. They cut out the craving so you just need to find something else to think about when you would normally smoke and make a conscious effort during those times. For me the worst times are talking on the phone, driving and drinking alcohol. Also tell everyone what your doing. There is nothing worse than being told off by everyone when you light up!

Im on day 6 with no fags, and your right it is bloody hard.
I am on a programme with my nurse i have to go and see her once a week, i find this really helps having support from somene other that family & friends.
So you could try finding out where your local stop smoking clinic is and go along for a chat, if they are good at what they do there will be no pressure on you!

I tried a million times and couldn't finally one day something just switched in my head and I went cold turkey . Three years later I'm still a non smoker. I still want smokes sometimes but those moment become less frequent and less intense as time goes on. Every time I feel weak I look at my kids and I go on. It's easier to do something for someone else then yourself. Just take it one craving at a time.

I quit for the 3rd time 2 years ago. I finally have no desire to ever smoke agin, though there are still random times that I get the urge.You have to REALLY WANT to quit, for you. Also, I took wellbutrin, the generic form of Zyban. My Dr. gave it ti me, you take it for 2 weeks then quit. Was a tremendous help!

Hi, I had hypnosis a couple of weeks ago and now, when someone is smoking on the street or something I am disgusted by the smell. Forget NRT, read Allen Carr.

I have stopped for just over a year. I used the patches for a couple of weeks and then i was fine so i stopped using them.
Its not easy but hang in there and in a few weeks you'll be able to breathe again, i promise :-)

I am trying to stop myself and I know it is hard for the people that are saying oh just stop if you want to live is B.S. Nicotine is the worst drug in the world believe it or nor stronger and more addicting then heroin

smoke like 1 cigarette a day and chew the gum the other times during the day when u want some nicotine

soon enough you will want the gum and not smoke

or nicotine patchs
