CBT is one of the most effective psychological treatments, so keep at it!
Typically, it takes about 3-6 months for things to get better.

I have used CBT and also often write on the subject. It really does work. How long it will take depends on how deeply you can hold and believe the positive messages you are giving yourself. But it can start being effective almost instantly...
If you catch yourself in some negative thinking and manage to correct it into something positive... that is a great start but will be very much more effective if you can make it feel really true for you, that that negative thought is simply not you and that the positive emotion it who you really are.
With CBT, honesty and in particular self-honesty is so important. Its no good saying something positive if underneath you are secretly thinking... but its not true for me or you just can't believe it for yourself.
I am sure that things are already changing for the better for you, sometimes these things take a little time. Just remember to always come from a loving place in your heart, try to find the beauty and joy in everything and keep thinking positively.

"Cognitive" is, The mental process through which knowledge is learned and applied. Therapy helps your thought process function properly as in behavior modification for obsessive compulsive disorder. Some people do do better taking a pill... But why set yourself up for a lifetime of taking pills and avoiding what is underlying and causing the problem if you dont absolutely have to. (I think Janet must be a drug rep or something?) Anyone who would say such a thing with conviction is sadly mistaken and should repress the need to share~ There are many factors to consider in the chemical process of the brain and its impulses... Medication is only a small part of it. Your neurotransmitters are effected by enviornment, stress poor diet and past and family history... Just popping a pill is stupid! Because you'll always just pop a pill and never actually get better on your own. Don't listen to the twits... Keep doing what you're doing even if it is uncomfortable and hard. It is worth it! Listen to Mystique... She/He should get the points~ Nutrition and mineral and vitamin supplements is a great way to begin helping yourself!

I've had CBT and still use the techniques today. It enabled me to live a relatively normal life. I would recommend to anyone not to give up - it takes around 3-4 months to start to work.

I have not had C.B.T. I have taken many psychology courses. I wanted to let you know that each individual is unique and time of healing is going to be different for each person. It sounds like your making progress. Don't give up.
I think your doctor can give you a better idea how long this will take to completely work. He knows your background, exactly how hard you are trying, how high your motavation is ect.
My personal experience may be quite different than yours. I was depressed and had lots of negitive thoughts. One of the things I did was what is called stop method. Basically I would have a negitive thought, yell inside my head stop, and replace it with a positive thought. I also went back to college to occupy my mind. It also helped me feel hopeful, useful, and a goal to look forward to. I didn't seek thearpy because I thought I could do this on my own with the advice of my psy. professors. I couldn't affored thearpy nor did i have insurance. Otherwise, I would have seeked professional help.
Ask your therapist if he/she knows of the thought stop methed and would it be any use to you.
Keep going for your C.B.T. and as I said before it looks like your making progress so be proud of that.

I've had CBT, it took me about 2 years and somethings are still there for me. Its takes as long as it takes, its down to you as an individual and how quickly you change and move on. Also its down to your own history (EG. why you are having CBT). I found it helped me change somethings and taught me to control other things. I found CBT combined with Transactional Analysis worked best for me, in total i would say it took about 4 years to recover fully even after the therapy.

I'm a psychologist. Reviewed research in respected journals shows that 75% of patients achieve measurable results from therapy in 26 sessions, and 85% receive measurable results in 52 sessions. Stick with it. And in a CBT vein- "don't believe everything you think!"
Nice to see a PATIENT working hard for once.

I have had it. Two months is no time at all, honestly. As time goes on, you'll see that you discover new things about yourself and more new ways of thinking about things, also you'll have had time to put some of it into practice until it becomes natural and consolidated.
I would definitely recommend you continue with it for as long as they'll let you...it made a huge difference to me.
Best wishes.
