Vacuum, wash sheets in very hot water, vacuum, get specialist bedding, spray mattress lightly with pyrethrin fly spray then vacuum. Apparently egyptian cotton bed sheets with a 250 or better thread count will not let dust mites pass thru.

I can survive, House dust mites can be a real hassle. From what I understand there are some natural products that that will help you to reduce these in your home that are completely safe for kids, pets plants, etc. You definitely do not want to go spraying chemicals all around with his asthma and allergies. The one that I have heard of the most is called Kleen-Free and you buy it online. This is an enzyme based product that apparently attacks the skin or shell of the mite and causes it to shed it skin early and die. Perhaps contact them and ask if their product works on dust mites. Good luck...

I too am severely allergic to dust mites. The pillow and mattress covers made to protect you for this purpose are a great start. Making sure your house is not full of throws, pillows, billowing curtains, or wall-to-wall carpet is the next step. The mites nest in these types of items. Washing bedding in the warmest water possible also aids in keeping the numbers down. Depending on the type of reaction they cause in you (for me it's itchy dry skin), you may also want to avoid using dryer sheets in your laundry as this is an extra irritant to the skin. If your symptoms are bad enough (as mine are), definately see an allergist. There are many medecations which can greatly help if not alleviate your symptoms.

Trick them - they are notoriously stupid.
Simply print out some small invitations to a party down the road (preferably at an address of someone you don't like) with a map and leave them lying around the floors of your house. Them talk in a really loud voice about how you've heard that there's a really great party happening and that they'll have cheese and pineapple on sticks and gooseberry punch (a housemite favourite) there. All of your housemites will go to the fake party and hopefully not bother coming back. In the days following your trick simply be careful not to open the door to anyone who may be a housemate/gang of housemates in disguise and you should be fine.

Get an air cleaner, use a damp cloth to dust a lot, get rid of excess carpet, and wash anything that is washable. It won't get rid of all of them, but it will cut down on them. Unfortunately dust mites are one of those facts of life.

You can't. Dust mites are everywhere, but you can use a HEPA filter vacuum, and use a better grade of furnace filter to reduce the amount.

Get rid of all your carpets, dust & vaccuum often.
Also dust mites can't live in foam mattresses.
