an elective is a class in school that you choose to take, you are not forced to. like woodworking or cooking these are electives. Many schools do not have very many of these and I think that there should be alot more than there, this would make students enjoy school more if there is a wide variety of electives to meet their interests

First, an elective is a class that one 'elects,' or chooses to take instead of being a 'required' course. Next,
MOST DEFINITELY.
I believe schools need to get in touch with the idea that not everyone has to go through an instutionalized education process throughout the first 25 years of their life to be either successful, or provide a useful service to society. If legislation were geared toward having pre-culinary, pre-mechanic, pre-whatever someone would be interested in, then we would have not only a better educational system, but a better integrated society with better equipped and informed individuals.

Which country are you in? This is what an " Elective Subject "
means in Australia. We have the usual compulsory subjects such as Maths. English, Science. Physical Education and then students are given a choice of electives such as Visual Arts/ Languages / Computing Studies/ Music / Drama etc. These electives are studied for 2 years and they are formally assessed.
