I had a spot of pain in my chest two days ago that I thought might be heart burn. Now the pain has moved to my back, exactly behind the spot of pain in my chest (like a bullet went through the front and out the back) and it hurts worse when I cough. Could it be serious?

Thanks for the answers I've gotten so far. I am 29 and I don't smoke. the chest infection sounds like the most likely answer. I'll go see a doctor soon.

this could be bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection. You do not state your age or any other symptoms so I would suggest you see a doctor. Are you a smoker? many things are factors that you did not go into.

You have a chest infection.

Go see the doctor, he'll listen to your chest, put you on a course of antibiotics, and then it will get better. If it doesn't, go back and he'll give you differant or stronger antibiotics.

The longer you leave it, the worse it will get, and you could develop bronchitis. If you smoke, stop until it clears up.

Could be any number of things. Back injury comes to mind, but chest pain should be evaluated by a doctor. A number of people write off mild heart attacks as indigestion until the big one comes along and kills them.
