[I am old enough to recall a sitcom called 'Love thy Neighbour' and a program called 'The comedians', where calling someone 'c00n', 'darkie', 'jungle bunny', etc was supposed to be the height of comedy.]

ISTR that the black neighbour, Bill, is just as racist as Eddie (the white one), slinging 'whitey' and 'honky' epithets back at his neighbour. The wives, by the way, seemed to get along fine; it was only the men who had problems.

Black actors Rudolph Walker and Nina Baden-Semper both claimed not to be offended by the racism in the scripts and, like the writers, hoped that Love Thy Neighbour would break down barriers.

"The Comedians" was rubbish - they either told jokes about colour, or jokes putting down the Irish/Scots/Welsh. Neither of which is acceptable in my book.

As for Jade's mother - can anyone who saw her really say, hand on heart, that she's NOT deserving of the label 'white trash'? What an image of the UK lots of people must have now, eh?

I am glad that we (British) are finally thinking about the things that people say in common speech and how it affects other people.
maybe "white trash" is a bit racist... it was not undeserved, as Jade is 'trash'.

On the wider point.... I am old enough to recall a sitcom called 'Love thy Neighbour' and a program called 'The comedians', where calling someone 'c00n', 'darkie', 'jungle bunny', etc was supposed to be the height of comedy...........and I recall a black school mate who was regularly called those words which had been used on TV the previous night.

It's refreshing to see people trying to see someone else's point of view

However, It's a pity that people are still using that tired old excuse that "racism only works against white people"

- and a big THANK YOU to Jizzumonkey, for putting the record straight, about the actual context of the 'white trash' quote

properly if Jermaine Jackson noted as Jade Goddy white trash she is being racist to the white race. even if that is declared about black human beings then there's a rebellion. Does Jermaine Jackson no longer recognize that Jade has black in her? that is so poor that our society thinks that declaring packy is so undesirable at the same time as there is sexist and ageist abuse occurring. Does all of us keep in innovations at the same time as the white college boy become attacked by technique of Asians?

This is what was actually said ... clean your ears out ... oh and btw i think Jackie and jade are pure white trash am white myself , they should be ashamed of the way they behave !!

Jermaine comforts Shilpa about Jackiey,
After Jackiey has been verbally abusive against Shilpa.

Shilpa: I'm like why why has no one else spotted me touching it.

Jermaine: Because they respect you and I think there in the buisness were all in the buisness and it wasnt in my upbringing to disrespect anybody.

Shilpa:Mine too.

Jermaine: And you got people out there who are the same way they may not like certain things but they know when they get out there they have an image they have a fanbase, Jade I am very impressed by her

Shilpa: Me too.

Jermaine: She's a star so she has a following and a fan base her mother doesn't, she does not care and I dont want to, go like this, it was reffered to her, they bought up the word white trash and I dont want to bring that up, and I wouldn't call her that because shes a human being.

But the fact is she doesnt care, have you seen that show Jerry springer have you heard about the show were they bring people on were they tell there buisness and they go crazy, they get people like that because they have no self respect.
Sometime I mean I help her because im suppose too, not suppose to but I feel it's a godly thing too do, to help her, she needs help.

Dont worry about it just be strong, you told me to calm you, I er, put it like this we have to be bigger and stronger we have too, at the end of the day we have to be bigger and stronger.

Shilpa: (laughs.)

Jermaine: just think if you hadnt walked through the door I would have been the only one in here with colour and it has nothing to do with anything, but sometimes you feel, you feel alone you feel alone, but when I saw you I felt better, no I'm okay now, i'm okay.

Personally I agree with what you have said however i think most white people I have spoke to on this subject have all agreed themselves that they think Jackie is white trash. Yes I agree a racist comment but a fitting one . I had a hard childhood but educated myself they is no excuses just because some one has had a poor up bringing that they should be allowed to behave the way Jackie and Jade do .

He shouldn't have said White, but She is Trash.

A White person calling people Black trash; I would think about the why he called me "black" trash, but after hearing people call me The N word. I would laugh at "black trash".
Face It White, Italian, Black, Brown, Irish, Indian, Latino trash.
No one cares except for the first word.

Both Jermaine and Jade made racist comments, however, Jermaine only made one, Jade made several and so did Jo and that model (can't remember her name). What can I say except the more racist comments a persons makes, the more racist they are seen to be. Hence, all this about Jade is about the many comments she made. Plus, it was also about the bullying not just the racist comments.

He's being rude. No excuse for that. Many White People would consider this racist. No excuse ever for racism. All humans are related, anyway--one race: the Human Race.

I think its because the term "white trash" was invented by white Americans to describe a certain type (class ?) of white person. If it was invented by black Americans, I think it would definitely be classed as racist but its still not a smart thing to say.

maybe because white trash is not racist and merely refers to a group of people, their skin color being the least important thing about them.
