The Tivo box?

If i were to buy a Tivo box would i still need to pay for service or would i be able to just start digitally recording my shows? My friend got a DVR box and he doesn't need to pay for any kind of service. Does the Tivo or any other DVR box make your cable digital too?

If you buy a tivo you wil have to pay for the service. If your friend got a dvr from his cable company, hey usually give the box for free and include a monthly on his cable bill. And finally no, buying a tivo or dvr doesnt give you digital cable but digital cable is a different signal sent from the cable company to your house.
