I love Aviemore, lots of lovely things for kiddies including a day trip to a reindeer farm, Coylum Bridge really cater for kiddies, mine went to circus school and were offered the chance to adopt a day old chick and watch it grow, special kiddies menu and lots of activities. there's a ski lift and a Swiss chalet style cafe at the top with huge mugs of hot chocolate with marshmallows, fresh chunky veg soups and a glass panoramic view. At the time there was also a Santa land. Very happy memories, there are several hotels there, I'm unsure of the names but a web search would help. Have a lovely time.

Lot depends on what type of family you are. Nice seaside places in Scotland, beautiful beaches North of Scotland. Ayrshire coast nice holiday resorts eg Town of Ayr combines seaside holiday with busy town and shops. Central Scotland's cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow have much do and see. Beautiful architecture, top entertainment and very accessable for touring. Highlands of Scotland offers magnificent scenery and you can visit many of the Scottish islands. All in all Scotland very much like any other country, depending on what you want from a holiday (can't always guarantee weather but we do get some lovely weather and this summer promises to be no exception). Many quieter areas have lodges etc where you can combine relaxaton with outdoor sports and pursuits. Best advise is to get in touch with the Tourist Board, now titled Visit Scotland and request brochures and ask their advise on what you are actually looking for from your holiday.

I really like the central area around Stirling, Callander, Doune, etc. If you are staying a week or so, you might look into renting a self catering house. The price is so much cheaper to do this, and most come with laundry facilities. Also, it saves a lot of money to be able to prepare some of your own meals at the house.

I would recommend Edinburgh. It has historic places to visit like the castle and royal mile and there is Porto bello beach and zoo for the children. Also it is a large city with lots of shops and restaurants and trains and buses for getting about.

Around Ayrshire is nice and you have Arran, etc, to visit and it's not too far into Scotland if you decide it's not quite for you.
